Legal English for the European Union: Language and Legal Perspectives

El curso tiene como objetivo formar en inglés jurídico a profesionales relacionados tanto con el ámbito del derecho (magistrados, fiscales, letrados, abogados, notarios, mediadores, personal al servicio de la administración de justicia, etc.) como de la lengua (filólogos, traductores o futuros traductores, intérpretes, terminólogos, revisores, etc.), así como a alumnos de carreras relacionadas con ambos ámbitos. El curso, que se imparte íntegramente en inglés, se divide en dos partes: la primera parte, impartida por lingüistas, se centrará en la descripción de las peculiaridades del inglés jurídico desde el punto de vista de su pronunciación, su gramática y su terminología; la segunda parte, impartida por juristas, se dedicará al análisis de temas de actualidad jurídica, con especial aplicación a la Unión Europea.

COURSE SUMMARY:
This course, which is taught fully in English, is aimed at language and law-related professionals or future professionals, as well as legal translators or future translators. It deals with (1) the study of and practice with the peculiar features of legal English, including its pronunciation, as well as the sources of legal vocabulary in English in the European Union; (2) current areas of interest from a legal point of view, with a special emphasis on the European Union.
THE COURSE IS HELD ONLINE AND IN DEFERRED MODE. ALL TALKS WILL BE RECORDED AND PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ABLE TO WATCH THEM AS MANY TIMES AS THEY LIKE. THERE IS NO NEED FOR PARTICIPANTS TO FOLLOW THE TIMETABLE OF THE COURSE.

- El curso está dirigido a:
a) profesionales relacionados con el ámbito jurídico (estudiantes y/o licenciados o graduados en derecho o grados afines; jueces y magistrados; abogados; fiscales; procuradores; letrados de la administración de justicia; personal al servicio de la administración de justicia; asesores legales, árbitros de derecho; mediadores; criminólogos, etc.);
(b) personas relacionadas con los estudios ingleses (alumnos licenciados y/o graduados en estudios ingleses, en lingüística o en grados afines, ya que la enseñanza del inglés especializado es una gran salida profesional al ser este una lingua franca);
(c) personas relacionadas con la traducción jurídica y jurada y la traducción profesional; aunque en el curso no se traducirá el vocabulario al español, se trata de una formación de gran utilidad para traductores jurídicos y/o jurados así como para traductores profesionales de textos especializados o terminólogos;
(d) público en general que quiera saber más sobre el inglés jurídico y el papel que éste desempeña, especialmente como lingua franca en la Unión Europea y a nivel internacional.
The course is aimed at :
(1) law-related professionals (judges, prosecutors, legal practitioners, legal advisors, court staff, arbitrators, mediators, criminologists, social workers, etc.) or students of any degrees connected to those areas;
(2) language-related professionals (linguists, translators, language trainers, terminologists, etc.) or students of any degrees related to those areas who wish to improve their level of legal English;
(3) general public who simply wish to get to know the role of legal English as a lingua franca in the European Union and at the international level while improving their knowledge of legal English. - Goals
- Mejorar la pronunciación, gramática, terminología y comunicación efectiva en inglés en el ámbito jurídico, así como perfeccionar el conocimiento y dominio en inglés de temas de actualidad jurídica, especialmente en lo relativo a la Unión Europea.
To improve the pronunciation, grammar, terminology and effective communication in legal English (with particular emphasis on the EU) as well as the knowledge of specific legal matters in English. - Methodology
- Modalidad:
· En directo a través de Webex. Los estudiantes inscritos reciben la información de acceso en la dirección de correo electrónico que hayan indicado al matricularse.
· En diferido. Los estudiantes reciben las grabaciones de cada una de las sesiones del curso en el plazo máximo de tres días hábiles a partir de su grabación.
· Independientemente del tipo de matrícula, todos los participantes podrán acceder a las grabaciones.
Previo al comienzo del curso tendrá las instrucciones y datos de conexión en MI ESPACIO: https://extension.uned.es/miespacio (opción 1: estudiante UNED, opción 2: no estudiante UNED).
Modality:
· Live through Webex: registered participants will receive relevant access information on the email address they have provided in the registration form.
· Deferred mode: students will receive a link to each of the recordings within 3 working days after each talk.
Regardless of the type of registration, all participants will have access to the recordings.
